Battle of the dry shampoos & the urban peach winner

If you are anything like me, you don't like to wash your hair. Yeah I said it! I don't like to wash my hair. Now don't get me wrong, I'm still all for the daily shower, but washing my hair, and even more so DRYING my hair is a chore I loathe and like to put off as long as possible. But what is a girl to do when you hate to wash your hair, and top knots are not gonna cut it every day of the week? Insert dry shampoo. Unless you have been living under a rock, we all know what dry shampoo is and how to use it. If you don't know, I have added this link HERE for your viewing pleasure that goes into a lot of un-needed detail on how to use it. Anyway, like all things in my life, I enjoy change, and I enjoy trying out different products until I find something that sticks. So today I am going to share with you 4 dry shampoo products that I have tested and I will tell you what is good as gold, and what is a no-go. So lets get started!

1. Not Your Mother's Clean Freak: I tried this out probably 6 months ago when I was desperately looking for a shampoo that would extend my lack of washing significantly. I saw that this has pretty good reviews on almost every site it is sold, so I got it. Now there are some cons to this product, it can leave a white residue on your hair if you spray it too close, and it has kinda of a weird smell, almost like aerosol and baby powder (which is probably what it is), but there are some amazing pros. I'm not kidding guys, I literally have not washed my hair in almost 5 days. That is probably pretty gross, but I am not talking it's been up in a bun for all 5 days and it just kinda masked my dirty hair enough to get by...no, it made my hair look like it wasn't dirty at all. You know how some dry shampoos make it look like obvious that you are trying to mask your dirty hair? Not this guy. plus the can is huge and and at less than $5 bucks, it is well worth it. It absorbed any trace of oil (several days in a row) and not to mention gave me awesome texture and volume. My waves from the other day are still looking fresh. I could probably go another 2 days, but I wont. I will wash it tonight...or maybe tomorrow, we will see:)

2. Tresseme Instant Refresh: If you have personally tried this, you may have a different opinion than I do, but I can't tell how much this stuff is pure crap. I have had my one and only experience needed with this guy on my honeymoon 3 and a half years ago. The night before my wedding I went to Wal-Mart with my best friend Ashley, and I saw this and thought it would be awesome to use on my honeymoon to Cancun. Less time washing my hair = more time for more important things (wink wink nudge nudge). Well it definitely did not work out that way, cause not only did this stuff not make my hair cleaner at all, it might have made it feel greasier actually. Total waste of money in my opinion. I know they claimed they have improved the formula, but I still probably will never try it again.

3. Suave Keratin Infusion: So this dry shampoo is probably one of the cheapest there is. I think it was barely over 2 bucks and I was interested in trying it cause "Keratin" sounded kinda cool. First thing you should know about this stuff is that it has a VERY strong smell. I am talking, if you wear perfume after putting this on, you will still only smell this all day long. It's not a particularly bad smell at all, actually it kinda smells very similar to Dior's J'adore perfume. And the only reason I know that is because my mom has that perfume and I wore it to my junior prom. I didn't love walking around remembering my junior prom 24/7. I also didn't think it did an amazing job "cleaning" my hair. The spray left my hair feeling very chalky and gritty almost, and you definitely couldn't double up days with this. This is like a one day hair saver, meaning you are gonna need to wash it the very next day, and where is the fun in that? I definitely don't think I would buy it again.

4. Batiste color dry shampoo: I found this at TJ Maxx one day just browsing, again with Ashley and I was intrigued by the color statement. When you have as dark of hair as I do, dry shampoo can make you look like you literally poured baby powder on my hair, so the claim that it would blend with my hair sounded good to me! I was actually really impressed with this shampoo because it did come out colored and blended really well. I would say that it did a pretty good job absorbing oil and there are actually others from this line that had different scents. I haven't tried them, but I hear they smell pretty good. The bottle is average sized but the price tag is what got me. Even steeply discounted at $6.99, it was a little more than I was used to paying for this stuff, but I would definitely still buy it again:)

THE WINNER:

DING DING DING! Hands down the winner would be 1. Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo. This is probably my favorite dry shampoo I have ever tried and the extra volume and texture you don't even bargain for makes this the clear winner in this case. I will buy again and again and again:)

Let me know if there are any dry shampoos that you love! I am always interested in trying new things!

  1. This was so helpful! I usually use the suave dry shampoo (not the keratin one just the plain silver bottle) and I love it! But I'm definitely gonna try the Not your mothers one. Ive also tried the tresseme one and it was horrible! Thanks for the review!

  2. I've seen the Not Your Mothers one but normally shy away from trying any new dry shampoos. The tresseme is a bunch of crap. I use to love Pssssssst but I think they've reformulated and it's not so great anymore. I'm definitely going to give NYM's a try because I hate the whole drying & straightening my hair after each wash part... too long of a process when I need to get on with my day. Thanks SO much!

  3. I like the Oscar Blondie dry shampoo but it's pricy. I like it because there is no white powder that you can see and you can still run your hands thru your hair and they won't come out covered in powdery gunk that gets stuck under your nails and well it just feels funky. I have super fine hair though so dry shampoo is not something I use often I have to shampoo after morning runs, there's not enough dry shampoo in the world to make me look fresh after a workout.

  5. Dude, I totally tried the tresseme and it turned me off of dry shampoo altogether until a couple of weeks ago. I see so many people recommending it and I've tried the big sexy hair, lush, oscar bland, and non of them seem to work! I don't know if you would be able to tell me if I'm doing something wrong?

I have really super thick hair and it gets pretty oily so I try starting out right at the front and sides at the roots. After I apply it always just feels even worse. The texture is tacky and my hair just gets weighed down and lank. Do you think I'm using too much? Or not spraying far enough away from the roots? Or not letting it sink in long enough? Do you think using a blow dryer makes a big difference?

Anyway sorry for all the questions. You have a really really nice blog :)

  6. You must try Oscar blandi's dry shampoo! The powdered one. It has a lemon verbena scent. A little goes a long way and works great with my dark hair!

  7. There are very few scalp psoriasis home remedies that include making a shampoo. For shampoos it is recommended that you stay with professional brands with recognized ingredients for the therapy for psoriasis.
